  • She talks about why Next Step English is focussed on advanced English learners. Having advanced vocabulary can have a drastic effect on your perceived level of English.
  • Jennifer is learning Spanish and the engagement she has on Twitter helps her to learn Spanish too.
  • Look for the origin of English words online or in a dictionary. This helps you learn the smaller parts of the language, it will develop your interest in English and help you live the language.
  • Jennifer gives some great advice on learning advanced English vocabulary.
  • She gives her four advanced alternatives for the verb leave. See the image below for examples and explanations of those alternatives!
  • When you decide which words you should learn, you should ask yourself, “Does this word reflect the way I like to express myself? Do I use this word in my language?”. That vocabulary will be the most relevant vocabulary you can learn.
  • Don’t forget the importance of your English journal or notebook!

  • Learn to love English! Everything becomes easier if you love learning. Go through your journal regularly and circle your favourite vocabulary. Speak in English every day. Talk to yourself! Have an anthem in English, learn the lyrics and sing along to it in the car!
