Hi there! Welcome to How To English
My name’s Adam David Broughton. You can call me Adam.
I’ve been an English language teacher since 2005, and I absolutely love what I do.
The best thing about my job is watching people learn. Turning on light bulbs in people’s heads is fantastic, and is the one thing that gets me out of bed every day.
The worst thing about my job? Learner frustration.
I meet English learners every day with these frustrations:
- Lack of progress (despite attending classes)
- Staying at the same level for years
- Level fluctuation
- The feeling that they can’t learn anymore
- Lack of speaking and listening skills
- Making the same mistakes over and over
Sound familiar?
Now, all my work and effort goes into trying to end learner frustration.
If you feel this, or have felt it at some point, you’re in the right place.
You see, the truth is that the traditional method doesn’t work. In fact, no method works. By method, I mean a teacher and a classroom. The teacher controls what you learn, how you learn, how much you learn, and when you learn.
And when you stop attending classes, your level goes down again.
So what do you do? Have classes for the rest of your life? No, of course not.
A few years ago, I had a thought. A really simple thought. Why don’t we teach people how to learn, instead of teaching them what to learn?
The only reason learners get frustrated is because they depend 100% on teachers and classes. They have no control. Their progress is in another person’s hands.
I will show you how to learn, practise and improve your English on your own. I will show you how to get better, lasting results and NOT lose your level. I will show you how to get the fluency you’ve always wanted.
This is the secret to reaching a truly advanced level of English. And I will show you how.
Sound good?

What people are saying about How To English
Finally! A guide to learning English myself without depending on classes and courses. I have made huge progress in my English with these small tricks and easy-to-do activities. It helps you take advantage of short moments during the day to practise. It is perfect! Thanks Adam!
Before I found How To English, I understood English “ok” – but always avoided situations where I had to talk. But then I discovered a master’s programme and I needed a TOEFL with a minimum score of 100. Thanks to the help of How To English, I passed the TOEFL and now I love speaking English and reading English books. Adam is always inspiring, and I’m very happy to have found him!
I’ve always wanted to improve my English but didn’t know how to do it. Adam’s method is different from any other course I have taken before or that I would ever take. Thanks to his approach, I could build a habit and I practise English regularly on my own. I can choose what to learn and I have complete control of my English. Adam is a special and talented teacher and the book has provided me with a solution to every problem I had.
The course was incredible and even better than I expected! The main aim was to provide me with tools that help me become more independent in the way I learn English. I got exactly that, but even more importantly, I gained the enjoyment of learning! Adam is a very practical and knowledgeable teacher and I am very grateful to him for having designed this unique course.
